U.S. Navy says source of contamination is likely petroleum chemicals from Red Hill well

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The U.S. Navy hosts at virtual town hall on water issues on the Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam Facebook page.

The town hall starts at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4.

Rear Adm. Blake Converse, Deputy Commander US Pacific Fleet Commander of Crisis action team says we have found the likely source of contamination. Petroleum chemicals that were initiated from the Red Hill well.

The Navy does not have a timeline as to when this will be resolved.

The plan is to first flush the system, then test it to be sure it is safe.

Water is now being provided from the Waiawa well, which is safe.

There will be another town hall Sunday, Dec. 5 that the public can attend in person. Details have not yet been released.
